Portability Options: Moving Your Pension Benefits To or From the Plan

The HEB Manitoba Pension provides portability options that let you transfer your pensionable benefits into or out of the Plan.

What Are Your Options?

There are two main ways to transfer pension benefits:

Reciprocal Transfers These work through special agreements we have with other pension plans. They let you move both your credited service time and the money you've contributed between plans.

We have reciprocal transfer agreements with these pension plans:

  • Brandon University Retirement Plan
  • Civil Service Superannuation Board
  • CUPE Employees' Pension Plan
  • Public Service Superannuation Act
  • Community Agencies Retirement Plan
  • Municipal Employees Pension Plan
  • Teachers' Retirement Allowances Fund (TRAF)

Commuted Value Transfers – If you were a member of a plan that does not have a reciprocal transfer agreement with HEPP, you may be eligible for a Commuted Value Transfer. These involve moving a lump sum amount that represents the value of your pension benefits, pending agreement between both plans.

Important to Know

Tax Considerations  Moving pension funds between plans may affect how much you can contribute to your RRSP.

We recommend speaking with a tax advisor or contacting the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for guidance about your personal situation.
